An explicit formula for the matrix logarithm

چکیده
We present an explicit polynomial formula for evaluating the principal logarithm of all matrices lying on the line segment {I(1 − t) + At : t ∈ [0, 1]} joining the identity matrix I (at t = 0) to any real matrix A (at t = 1) having no eigenvalues on the closed negative real axis. This extends to the matrix logarithm the well known Putzer’s method for evaluating the matrix exponential. Key-words: Matrix logarithm, polynomial method AMS subject classifications: 15A18, 34A30

A Free Line Search Steepest Descent Method for Solving Unconstrained Optimization Problems
In this paper, we solve unconstrained optimization problem using a free line search steepest descent method. First, we propose a double parameter scaled quasi Newton formula for calculating an approximation of the Hessian matrix. The approximation obtained from this formula is a positive definite matrix that is satisfied in the standard secant relation. We also show that the largest eigen value...
متن کاملOn the Remarkable Formula for Spectral Distance of Block Southeast Submatrix
This paper presents a remarkable formula for spectral distance of a given block normal matrix $G_{D_0} = begin{pmatrix} A & B \ C & D_0 end{pmatrix} $ to set of block normal matrix $G_{D}$ (as same as $G_{D_0}$ except block $D$ which is replaced by block $D_0$), in which $A in mathbb{C}^{ntimes n}$ is invertible, $ B in mathbb{C}^{ntimes m}, C in mathbb{C}^{mti...
متن کاملAn explicit formula for the number of fuzzy subgroups of a finite abelian $p$-group\ of rank two
Ngcibi, Murali and Makamba [Fuzzy subgroups of rank two abelian$p$-group, Iranian J. of Fuzzy Systems {bf 7} (2010), 149-153]considered the number of fuzzy subgroups of a finite abelian$p$-group $mathbb{Z}_{p^m}times mathbb{Z}_{p^n}$ of rank two, andgave explicit formulas for the cases when $m$ is any positiveinteger and $n=1,2,3$. Even though their method can be used for thecases when $n=4,5,l...
متن کاملOn the square root of quadratic matrices
Here we present a new approach to calculating the square root of a quadratic matrix. Actually, the purpose of this article is to show how the Cayley-Hamilton theorem may be used to determine an explicit formula for all the square roots of $2times 2$ matrices.
متن کاملThe critical Z-invariant Ising model via dimers: locality property
We study a large class of critical two-dimensional Ising models, namely critical Z-invariant Ising models. Fisher [Fis66] introduced a correspondence between the Ising model and the dimer model on a decorated graph, thus setting dimer techniques as a powerful tool for understanding the Ising model. In this paper, we give a full description of the dimer model corresponding to the critical Zinvar...
